NEW YORK (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc.'s new superslim iPhone with a buttonless touch-screen will pose a challenge to high-end cell phones, but its initial pricing will give rivals some breathing room, analysts said.

Apple said on Tuesday it will begin shipping the new gadget, which combines a mobile phone with Internet, e-mail, music, pictures and video, in the United States in June. An 8-gigabyte model will cost $599 and a 4-gigabyte model $499.

In the news, it says the phone is only 11.6mm thick, which is thiner than Razr. It's gonna be a big challenge to the communication quality since it's almost the most important feature if it's a "phone" instead of any other consumer devices.

Terefore, let's wait and see if its worthwhile to buy one!!

It's hard to imagine that Apple will adopt Windows. Many people had told me that Apple is actually selling their software given the fact that it has adopted Intel.

John Dvorak made his point of speculations:
1. Apple Switch ad capaign was over, and nobody switched.
2. iPod lost its FireWire connector because the PC world was the new target audience.
3. iPod was designed to get people to move to the Mac, this didn't happen.
4. Apple had switched to the intel microprocessor.

The feature is higher than Apple's earlier release of this model. I wonder if that's another Apple marketing trick: Always make you surprised.

Under the agreement, Samsung will provide Telecom Italia with relevant technologies and know-how for the WiBro high-speed Internet broadband service, Samsung said in a report.

The two partners, under a strategic alliance agreed upon late last year, are demonstrating the WiBro service at Olympic Rendezvous@Samsung, Samsung’s exhibition pavilion located in Torino, the site of the Winter Olympic Games.

最近GPS產品百家爭鳴。許多中小企業，二十到一百人以下的公司都在研發行銷GPS相關的產品。這些公司多半外包生產，並使用已經設計好的GPS模組，進行硬體及軟體的系統研發。大部份的工作重點在於系統整合之後的「整合性」問題，例如EMC的問題、系統效能問題或是天線相關的問題。

可見的事，這些問題似乎都可以以一個中小型的團隊來解決。這個產業的資本密集度亦不高，關鍵技術的持有公司並不嚴設合作與授權門檻。所以GPS設備製造公司如雨後春筍般地林立。

我們曾經有這樣的討論，有人說這樣的現象只是一個短暫時期，就像主機板、筆記型電腦與手機一樣，開始的時候總是百家爭鳴，然後產業版圖會慢慢重整，最後剩下大約三到五家能在市場上立於不敗之地。

不過GPS設備真的會像上述產品一樣最後重整成幾大家廠商嗎？

我的看法是這樣的，如果我們再觀察其它的產業，例如無線網路設備廠商、或是一些電腦週邊設備廠商，我們就可以發現幾年下來仍是屬於中小企業的市場。可能是因為這些產品所需要的研發能量與資本投入並不是那麼高，所以中小企業很容易在裏面找到一片天空。

當某些產品的市場需求沒有達到經濟規模，不需要龐大的資金作為後盾時，也許就會是中小企業的天下。

I have been a project manager for some years and found it a very challenging and difficult job. In the company I worked with (which is already in the top 10 biggest company in Taiwan), I haven't seen a sucessful project management practice.

Nevertheless, I still found its useful to try to remember some important things in the project management guideline.

Role of project manager:

1. Leadership and guidance (often difficult)
2. Planning
3. Customer relations
4. Technical leadership
5. Senior management liaison

Foreseight is an excellent PM quality: ability to anticipate problem (Risk management)

Successful risk management: (defined by SEI)
1. Riskis are identified and analyzed
2. Risks are mitigated, tracked and controlled to effectively use of program resources.
3. Probmels are prevented before they occur and personnel consciously focus on what could affecdt productd quality and schedules

TheFeature is dead now, what a sad thing to hear. It's one of the best mobile industry sources I referred to for the marketing work. First Open Industry Standard for Push To Talk | Wireless News - Wireless IQ: "The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) announces the availability of the OMA Push To Talk Over Cellular 1.0 Candidate Enabler (OMA PoC 1.0) that provides the mobile industry with increased opportunity to deliver new services across multiple carriers, geographic locations and devices around the globe.

OMA PoC 1.0, developed collaboratively by members of OMA, is a two-way form of communication that allows mobile phone users to engage in immediate communication with one or more users, similar to a 'walkie-talkie' application. OMA PoC 1.0 supports:
— One-to-One PoC Session: the basic capability to set up a voice
communication between two users
— One-to-Many PoC Session: enables the user to set up a voice
communication with a multiple number of other PoC subscribers in an ad-
hoc or pre-defined group manner
— Instant Personal Alert: enables the calling user to inform a party of
his or her wish to communicate and to request the invited user to
'call-back'
— Group Advertisement: the capability to inform other users about an
existing PoC Group

OMA PoC 1.0 incorporates key features of other OMA Enablers, including OMA XML Document Management Enabler and OMA Presence Enabler. These Enablers contribute group list management and integration of users' presence & availability information to OMA PoC 1.0.

'Finalizing the OMA Push to Talk Over Cellular specification is a major milestone for the mobile industry. Many operators already offer PoC services to their consumer and business customers, and vendors build their products accordingly. However, what the industry awaited is a common, agreed, open standard for facilitating interoperability between equipment and services,' said Jari Alvinen, Chairman of the Board, Open Mobile Alliance.

OMA recently held the first Interoperability TestFest for OMA PoC 1.0, where six servers and eight clients deploying the OMA PoC 1.0 Enabler were tested. OMA Interoperability TestFests are an important step in the OMA Release Program where basic inter-working of services between several suppliers can be tested in a production environment.

OMA Push To Talk Over Cellular Industry Event

To support the release of OMA PoC 1.0, OMA is holding an industry event where executives from Cingular Wireless, Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens, Sonim and Vodafone will join each other in a panel discussion on the importance of PoC standardization and their commitment to the newly available specification. Iain Gillott, founder of iGillottResearch and an acknowledged wireless and mobile industry authority, will moderate the panel. The PoC event is being held on Monday June 13, 2005 in San Diego, California.

'With OMA's release, Push To Talk Over Cellular now has the first open standard for building interoperable services and applications,' said Iain Gillott, president of iGillottResearch. 'A wider range of adoption across service providers will foster new premium services falling under the PoC umbrella. This is not the first such deal in Europe: Orange, the mobile phone owned by France Telecom has signed up French TV channel M6. Extreme sports will also be available on Orange’s new UK mobile phone television service.
