Will Apple Adopt Windows?

It's hard to imagine that Apple will adopt Windows. Many people had told me that Apple is actually selling their software given the fact that it has adopted Intel.

John Dvorak made his point of speculations:
1. Apple Switch ad capaign was over, and nobody switched.
2. iPod lost its FireWire connector because the PC world was the new target audience.
3. iPod was designed to get people to move to the Mac, this didn't happen.
4. Apple had switched to the intel microprocessor.

Long long story that you can read yourself here

On Making the Right Choice: The Deliberation-Without-Attention Effect -- Dijksterhuis et al. 311 (5763): 1005 -- Science

On Making the Right Choice: The Deliberation-Without-Attention Effect -- Dijksterhuis et al. 311 (5763): 1005 -- Science: "On Making the Right Choice"

愈複雜的決定,想得愈少,跟著感覺走,似乎愈能得到一個滿意的結果。

it was confirmed in four studies on consumer choice, both in the laboratory as well as among actual shoppers, that purchases of complex products were viewed more favorably when decisions had been made in the absence of attentive deliberation.
結果的對錯可能不是那麼重要,最重要的是結果是不是令人滿意吧。

不知道這個研究是否有包括「長期」滿意度指標.... 。

This devlice looks really cool. However I still couldn't figure out how to use it even after visiting it's web site and download its user maual.

It seems kids can use this pen to do lots of things.. for only $99?

It'll be really intersting to see how this stuff will sell.

Apple's MacBook Pro

Apple has started shipping of their Intel inside power book. The dual core (Intel Core) CPU speed is up to 2.0 Ghz, with 2.1 Ghz built to order.

The feature is higher than Apple's earlier release of this model. I wonder if that's another Apple marketing trick: Always make you surprised.

...configurations of the MacBook Pro feature a 15.4-inch 1440 by 900 pixel display, 512 MB to 1 GB of RAM, 80 to 100 GB hard drives, a slot-loading DVD+/-RW and CW-RW "SuperDrive," PCI Express-based ATI Mobility Radeon graphics controller, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth and 802.11g wireless networking, an ExpressCard expansion slot, two USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire 400 port, and an innovative "MagSafe" magnetic power connector
The MacBook Pro's prices are ranging from $1,999 to $2.499. In the past, it is difficult to compare Apple to Orange. However it's still interesting to compare a similar configuration with Window system since they are with same HW core now.

I tried to find a similar laptop, Acers Aspire 5672WLM:

  • CPU :Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz,667MHz FSB ,2MB L2 Cache
  • Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG(802.11a+b+g) & Giga bits Ethernet
  • Built in Bluetooth
  • 15.4 inch with 1280*800 resolution
  • VGA : ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400 128MB
  • RAM : 512MB(1*512MB) DDR2 533 RAM, MAX 4GB
  • HDD : 100GB Serial ATA
  • DVD-Super Multi double layer writer
  • Built in 1,3 mega pixel rotable camera module
  • Acer Bluetooth VoIP Phone
  • Built in muti slot card reader: SD, MMC, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro , xD

  • Finally here comes the price: $1,730 if you get it from Taiwan. The price seems pretty close, right? Sounds like Apple MacBook Pro will be quiet hot in the market.

EETimes.com - Samsung backs Italy's WiBro launch in 2007: "Samsung backs Italy's WiBro launch in 2007

    (02/13/2006 8:42 H EST)

SEOUL, South Korea — Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. has agreed to cooperate with Italy's top telecommunications service carrier to jointly launch a mobile WiMAX service in Italy in 2007.

Under the agreement, Samsung will provide Telecom Italia with relevant technologies and know-how for the WiBro high-speed Internet broadband service, Samsung said in a report.

The two partners, under a strategic alliance agreed upon late last year, are demonstrating the WiBro service at Olympic Rendezvous@Samsung, Samsung’s exhibition pavilion located in Torino, the site of the Winter Olympic Games.

Last December, Samsung signed a similar agreement with Venezuela’s mobile service provider Omnivision C.A. The Venezuelan pay-TV service provider will deploy the WiBro system the third quarter of this year."

    Project Management

I have been a project manager for some years and found it a very challenging and difficult job. In the company I worked with (which is already in the top 10 biggest company in Taiwan), I haven't seen a sucessful project management practice.

Nevertheless, I still found its useful to try to remember some important things in the project management guideline.

    Role of project manager:

    1. Leadership and guidance (often difficult)
    2. Planning
    3. Customer relations
    4. Technical leadership
    5. Senior management liaison

Foreseight is an excellent PM quality: ability to anticipate problem (Risk management)

Successful risk management: (defined by SEI)
    1. Riskis are identified and analyzed
    2. Risks are mitigated, tracked and controlled to effectively use of program resources.
    3. Probmels are prevented before they occur and personnel consciously focus on what could affecdt productd quality and schedules
