'Finalizing the OMA Push to Talk Over Cellular specification is a major milestone for the mobile industry. Many operators already offer PoC services to their consumer and business customers, and vendors build their products accordingly. OMA recently held the first Interoperability TestFest for OMA PoC 1.0, where six servers and eight clients deploying the OMA PoC 1.0 Enabler were tested. OMA Interoperability TestFests are an important step in the OMA Release Program where basic inter-working of services between several suppliers can be tested in a production environment.

To support the release of OMA PoC 1.0, OMA is holding an industry event where executives from Cingular Wireless, Ericsson, Nokia, Siemens, Sonim and Vodafone will join each other in a panel discussion on the importance of PoC standardization and their commitment to the newly available specification. Iain Gillott, founder of iGillottResearch and an acknowledged wireless and mobile industry authority, will moderate the panel. The PoC event is being held on Monday June 13, 2005 in San Diego, California.

Extreme Sports Channel <http://www.extreme.com> in Britain is launching an MVNO, with network rented from Vodafone..this will be the first TV-related MVNO in UK. The new service, called ExtremeMob <http://www.extrememob.com/> , will be a pre-pay mobile phone brand aimed at under the 24s and will launch in late July or early August and roll it out nationally in the autumn.
The group, which said it would jazz-up voice and text services with sports content from an online portal, will initially sell phones and mobile phone cards on its website before branching out into its 18 stores across the country.
This is not the first such deal in Europe: Orange, the mobile phone owned by France Telecom has signed up French TV channel M6. Extreme sports will also be available on Orange’s new UK mobile phone television service.
Ovum <http://www.ovum.com/news/euronews.asp?id=2722> : Vodafone UK has previously been very anti-MVNO, and its deal with BT was viewed as an exception to its corporate wholesale strategy. This new MVNO deal with Extreme could signify a change of heart for Vodafone.
